Happy International Mother Language Day!

Did you know February 21st is International Mother Language Day? I learned about it last year! I also learned some interesting facts!

Here are the facts I discovered while reading about today’s International Mother Language Day!

1. International Mother Language Day is celebrated on February 21st to commemorate the deaths of four student activists from Bangladesh. As a result, Bangladesh has been celebrating "Bengali Language Movement Day" on February 21st since 1955.

2. UNESCO began celebrating International Mother Language Day worldwide on the same date in 2000.

3. A language disappears every 2 weeks!

4. Forty percent of the world's population is unable to access education in a language they understand.

➡️ Some facts are disheartening, but glad to see that we are also working towards positive changes in accepting our home language/mother language.

📍Did you know these facts?

📍Also, how are you preserving your mother language?
